Amber Energy Integration
This article covers frequently asked questions about integrating Amber Electric with your Tesla Powerwall using Teslemetry's price sync feature.
Overview
What is the Amber Energy integration?
Teslemetry offers a feature that syncs Amber Electric's wholesale electricity prices directly to your Tesla Powerwall. This allows your Powerwall to make intelligent decisions about when to charge from the grid, discharge to the grid, or use stored energy based on real-time market prices.
Where can I find the Amber pricing integration?
The Amber integration is accessed at https://teslemetry.com/console/amber. From this page, you can:
- Enter your Amber API key
- Select which energy site(s) to sync
- View a real-time price graph
- Enable or disable the price sync feature
What does the Amber integration actually do?
The integration syncs Amber's electricity prices to your Powerwall's tariff configuration every 5 minutes. This allows your Powerwall to make autonomous decisions in Time-Based Control mode.
Important: The Amber price sync only works when your Powerwall is in Autonomous (Time-Based Control) mode.
Configuration
How do I configure the Amber tariff integration with my Powerwall?
- Get your Amber API key: Log into your Amber Electric account and generate an API key
- Configure Teslemetry: Go to https://teslemetry.com/console/amber and enter your Amber API key
- Set your Powerwall to Autonomous mode: Open the Tesla app and select "Time-Based Control"
- Verify the sync: Check the real-time price graph on the Teslemetry console
How frequently do the prices sync?
Prices are synced to your Powerwall every 5 minutes.
Price Discrepancies
Why are the import/export prices in the Tesla app different from the Amber app?
While we have made efforts to get price updates from Amber as soon as possible, It is expected that the Teslemetry updates will occur slower than Amber's own systems. You may notice small discrepancies in this instance. As of Feburary 7 2026 the system uses the same AEMO based forecasts as the Amber app, rather than the CSIRO advanced predictions which were used originally.
Revoking the Integration
How do I revoke Amber integration and restore default Tesla app settings?
To disable the Amber price sync:
- Go to https://teslemetry.com/console/amber
- Set the mode to "Off"
- Once disabled, use the Tesla app to set your tariffs however you prefer
SmartShift and VPP Considerations
What happens if I am on SmartShift?
When enrolled in SmartShift:
- Amber can control your Powerwall for VPP events
- Some settings may be hidden from the Tesla app
- You can still change these settings via the Teslemetry API
- SmartShift and Teslemetry Amber sync can coexist, but be aware of potential conflicts
